King of Brunei Arrives in Cambodia for Breakfast with Cambodia Senate President

Phnom Penh, April 29, 2024: His Majesty the King of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, landed in Phnom Penh tonight to meet with the President of the Senate of Cambodia, Hun Sen. Their rendezvous includes a special breakfast scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Welcoming the Sultan at Phnom Penh International Airport, Hun Sen personally greeted the royal guest, referring to him as a brother, and escorted him to his hotel.

This meeting isn't unfamiliar territory for the two leaders. In 2011, when Hun Sen visited Brunei, King Hassanal Bolkiah himself drove to the airport to receive him, reflecting the depth of their personal relationship.

President Hun Sen took to his official Facebook page to share the purpose of the Sultan's visit, emphasizing their close bond. He affectionately described a fraternity among three leaders: himself, the Sultan of Brunei, and Thaksin Shinawatra, former Prime Minister of Thailand.

The breakfast, slated for April 30, will be an intimate affair devoid of formalities. Accompanying the Sultan will be his son, Prince Mateen, while Hun Sen will be joined by his three sons – Hun Manet, Hun Manith, and Hun Many.

Post-breakfast, Hun Sen will see off the Sultan at the airport as he departs back to Brunei.
